Effect of CSR investment on technology licensing and product pricing

Abstract: Intellectual property rights protection is the cornerstone of the socialistic market economic. Considering a supply chain system consisting of a technology owner, a branded manufacturer and a retailer, we investigate a patent technology license contract design by technology owner and a sale strategy between the branded manufacturer and the retailer in the presence of corporate social responsibility and asymmetric information. On this basis, we analyze the effects of the corporate social responsibility on technology licensing and pricing. The results show that, in the patent licensing stage, the technology owner will choose different forms of patent technology license contract. The corporate social responsibility can increase the wholesale price and retail price, it can also effectively increase the profit of the retailer, supply chain system and the consumer welfare. But the corporate social responsibility can not necessarily increase the branded manufacturer’s profit. As the same time, the patent owner can get more profit while a certain condition prevails.
